While we are always delighted to welcome you to your home from home at The Merrion Hotel, we also see Dublin as our wider home. Our role in the community is a vital part of our commitment to sustainability.
Closest to home, our team at The Merrion are family. Many have worked with us since we first opened our doors. Our staff initiative, reward and supports programmes include the All About Me Programme, which offers training in new skills so that employees can grow with the hotel. Healthcare, dental cover and mental health supports are provided. We also offer online courses, flexible work patterns, and free English classes to new team members from around the world. Subsidised housing helps employees with affordable space to live and build their own families, while social events ensure no one experiences isolation. Our Lunch and Learn series introduces the different cultures on our team to the wider group, which now comprises 46 different nationalities – something we think helps to give an international welcome to our visitors from around the world that is always rooted in the famous traditions of Irish hospitality. We are certified as a Great Place to Work, and have been a Deloitte Best Managed Company for six years in a row.

Famous for our incredible Art Collection, we are proud of the successes of Irish artists and writers throughout history. We understand that future generations need our support to thrive, so initiatives such as the Merrion Plinth are aimed at giving meaningful help to artists working in Ireland today. The Merrion Plinth provides a valuable biennial commission through an open submission competition, adjudicated by a panel of experts in the world of art in Ireland.
In addition to this, we support the Dublin International Film Festival, the International Literature Festival, the Dublin Fringe Festival, the St Patrick’s Festival, the Dublin International Piano Competition, Music Network Ireland, the Veronica Dunne International Singing Competition, and the Wexford Festival Opera. Our Community and Social Initiatives are extremely important to us. Proud members of the Together Academy, which provides training, support and mentoring to young adults with Down syndrome, we host student placements, and we’re delighted to welcome the graduating classes from 2023 to 2025 for a special reception at The Merrion Hotel.
Furniture at The Merrion is upgraded on a regular basis, and when it does leave us, it is donated to charities, including the Jack and Jill Children’s Foundation. Lost property is ultimately donated to Vision Ireland ( formerly the National Council for the Blind), but rest assured, we give you plenty of time to claim it after your stay. Any surplus food from our restaurants is donated to community support charities.
Continuing the good work: membership of our partner and neighbouring communities and groups keeps us up to date with new social needs and developments, and our team holds regular meetings to explore ways of improving and strengthening our role, as well as the wellbeing of our team members. All our meetings are now paperless, and where we do print, we have switched to sustainable toners.
