COSI IN THE GARDEN
AT THE MERRION HOTEL
May, 2003
As the days become longer and the evenings warmer, nothing could be quite as sublime as experiencing an open -air opera performance in the magnificent gardens of The Merrion, Dublin's most stylish 5-star hotel.
On Thursday June 19th, the hotel's 18th Century gardens, designed by acclaimed gardener Jim Reynolds, are the stunning backdrop for Mozart's Cosi Fan Tutti. Performed by touring company Co-Opera, this recounts the story of a cynical bachelor who bets that two women, in love with two officers, will not remain faithful while the men are away.
The vast space and elegant water features throughout the gardens allow the performers great artistic flexibility with singers appearing out from behind bushes, alongside sculptures or from bedroom balconies. Indeed guests staying at The Merrion will be tempted to throw open their balcony doors and enjoy the open-air recital below. Even the resident ducks join in the event!
This elegant black-tie evening will commence on the hotel's Garden Terrace with a selection of delicious canapés and champagne. Following the performance, guests are escorted inside into the exquisite rooms of Mornington House, former home of the first Duke of Wellington, for a spectacular buffet supper prepared by Executive Head Chef Ed Cooney.
Tickets for the evening are sold at €245 each. For reservations, please call The Hotel directly on Tel: 01 6030600 or e-mail
