The Merrion Dublin Strikes Gold Again
December 2005
The RAC's Gold Ribbon Premier Award, which recognises the very best in British and Irish hospitality, has been awarded to The Merrion Hotel in Dublin for the sixth consecutive year. The Merrion is the only hotel located within the Irish capital to receive the Gold Ribbon Award, which is bestowed upon "hotels, townhouses and restaurants with rooms that offer and accept nothing less than the finest." The RAC describes the winners of the coveted award as hotels that "offer a truly exceptional experience in comfort, cuisine, customer care and service."
The Merrion Hotel, Dublin's most luxurious and elegant five-star hotel, opened in 1997 and is situated in the heart of the vibrant city, opposite the Government Buildings. Set in a collection of historic Georgian townhouses and home to one of Ireland's largest collections of private art as well as two landscaped period gardens, The Merrion has swiftly built a reputation as the place to stay in Dublin.
Peter MacCann, the hotel's General Manager, commented that he was delighted that The Merrion had been honoured with the award for the sixth consecutive year: "This is a reflection of the fact that eight years after opening, The Merrion still holds its position as Dublin's foremost luxury hotel. The RAC awards are world-recognised and receiving this accolade once again is a true honour".
The RAC has years of experience in rating and awarding properties, offering independent and impartial assessments of hotels, bed and breakfasts and accommodation throughout Great Britain and Ireland. Hotels within the scheme are inspected on a regular basis to award the appropriate ratings and awards. This is the last year that the RAC will release its hotel guides and awards; from next year a single method of assessing and rating serviced accommodation has been agreed by all the UK's main accreditation bodies, including the national tourist boards of England, Scotland and Wales, the AA and the RAC.
